The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) became the first business chamber
in the Caribbean to partner with the United Nations Global Compact with the formal signing
of a partnership agreement between the UNGC and the BCCI at a cocktail reception held on
October 26, 2023.

The partnership agreement was signed by Didier Trebucq Resident Coordinator, United
Nations Barbados & The Eastern Caribbean; Esther Corral, Regional Head Latin America and
the Caribbean, United Nations Global Compact and James “Jimmy” Clarke President, of the Barbados Chamber of
Commerce and Industry.

The Barbados Chamber and the UNGC in signing the partnership agreement commit to
advancing the UNGC Multiplier Strategy in Barbados primarily among the BCCI membership
across the business sector. The two organizations will collaborate on scaling up global
collective actions aligned with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact aimed at
upholding human rights, ensuring environmental responsibility, and fighting against corruption
in all its forms. The BCCI and UNGC also commit to promoting the contribution of the private
sector towards meeting the UN Sustainable Developments Goals.

The event was attended by representatives from the business sector, the UN Resident Co-ordinator Office; UN Women, the Office of the
High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCH) and other specially invited guests.
